New lenses available to help with light sensitivity

At Focus on Eyecare, we help our patients navigate the challenges of vision care. A common concern among our patients is light sensitivity, especially as it relates to migraines. If you or someone in your family lives with migraines, you know it’s more than just a headache. Migraines can bring a host of disabling symptoms - one of the most common being light sensitivity, or photophobia. In fact, for many, even ordinary indoor lighting or the glare from digital screens can trigger or worsen migraine episodes. We regularly see patients who describe these challenges. Light sensitivity affects focus, mood and daily activities, making school or work especially difficult. While there are several management strategies - medication, hydration, rest - many people aren’t aware that specialized eyeglass lenses can play a role in migraine care.

Light sensitivity is different with migraines

Unlike typical glare sensitivity, migraine-related light sensitivity is a neurological response. Research shows that specific wavelengths of light can exacerbate migraine pain and prolong attacks, while others may soothe the intensity of the pain.

Introducing Avulux Light Sensitivity Lense

Avulux lenses are a new, scientifically developed option now available at Focus on Eyecare. These lenses filter out the blue, amber and red wavelengths shown to trigger or worsen migraines while allowing in the low intensity green wavelengths that are more soothing. This sets Avulux apart from all other tinted lenses or blue light glasses. Instead of simply darkening your world, Avulux lenses specifically target the wavelengths linked to migraines, offering relief without compromising color perception or clarity. You may benefit from Avulux lenses if you have chronic or occasional migraines with associated light sensitivity. If you are a student or professional who spends many hours under artificial light or using screens, Avulux lenses may allow you to function at school or work during a migraine attack. Avulux lenses make a great non-pharmaceutical option to complement migraine management.

How to get started

If light sensitivity is impacting your quality of life, we invite you to schedule a consultation at Focus on Eyecare. During your visit, we can assess your visual needs and demonstrate Avulux lenses in person. Many patients report feeling more comfortable almost immediately when trying them on.
